Natural Gas:

Poland to become independent from Russian gas by the end-2022

Poland will become independent from Russian gas by the end of 2022, a government official said on February 5.

Piotr Naimski, the Polish government pointman’s on strategic energy infrastructure, said Poland would stop buying Russian gas after its long-term supply contract with Russia’s Gazprom expires in 2022. «Poland will not extend the contract», Naimski told public broadcaster Polish Radio.

Instead «new possibilities will appear», Naimski said, naming the Baltic Pipe, a planned new pipeline that will link Poland with Norway via Denmark as part of Warsaw’s efforts to diversify gas supplies.

Poland will also seek to diversify supplies by signing new contracts for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States and Qatar, Naimski said. Work to build the new Baltic Pipe gas link is due to start next year and end by October 1, 2022, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported.

BlackRock agrees sale of UK wind, solar portfolio to Equitix

The real assets division of US investment manager BlackRock Inc. said today it has entered into an agreement to sell five operating wind farms and a single solar park in the UK to Equitix Investment Management.

This is the fourth realisation in the past three months for BlackRock Real Assets’ renewable power platform, it said. The announcement did not mention how much the infrastructure investment firm has paid for the portfolio.

BlackRock noted that the plants within this portfolio have been inaugurated between 2010 and 2015 and have been operating consistently since then. The company has optimised their debt capital structure through a refinancing process.

On Friday, BlackRock Real Assets announced it had also agreed to sell a four-plant solar portfolio in the Canadian province of Ontario to US insurance company Ullico Inc.
